RSO Event
In the first few weeks that i arrived here at wmu, i knew that i wanted to investigate all of the student clubs and organizations that were offered. Being a Sales and business marketing major I brought my friend Luca along to check out the american marking association. We went to their info meeting and they gave us pizza! besides the pizza it was pretty fun event. everyone was extremely nice and friendly, they presented what their RSO was all about and their goals and what new members would have to do to join. after the meeting had concluded, Luca and i decided that the american marketing association wasn't for us. But it was still a good experience and to see how RSO's operate.
Off Campus Event
I was in desperate need of new shoes because my had been ripped to shreds after playing too much soccer in the rec center. So I decided instead of ordering them online i would go to downtown Kalamazoo and see what it had to offer. Someone pointed me towards the Kalamazoo mall and said to check out a store called Gazelle sports. On the way their I found it very interesting to see that the road was paved with brick! I did find gazelle and it was an amazing store! They were extremely helpful in my pursuit of a new shoes. Also they are apparently one of the top 5 best running stores in the country. who knew we had something so cool right here in Kalamazoo!
Fine Arts event #2
When we first came to wmu for welcome week, we got to get a taste of the downtown life and what Kalamazoo had to offer us. One such aspect was the kia (Kalamazoo institute of Arts). I decided to take my friend Luca and Rachael to go investigate. When you first walk into the kia, there's is an enormous glass sculpture of the sun. it has hundreds of wisp like prongs sticking out. The guide later told us it was made by Peter Chahoughly. We were able to see hundreds of paintings that day and it was a lot of fun! I would recommend anyone to go who enjoys looking at art.
Fine arts event #1
My friend Jesean Murray is in a music appreciation class and every class periods he is able to listen to live music. I figured that this would be a great opportunity to attend one of my fine arts events. We went to miller auditorium at 7 and got good seats in the balcony. That night we were able to listen to the Kalamazoo Symphony and Orchestra. They played some very interesting pieces, I can say this though. As interesting and informative as it was, Classical music isn't necessarily my favorite genre of music. We were still able to have a good time and enjoy some live music though.
Diversity event
I was able to attend a diverse student event in Korhman hall with students from around the globe. We were divided up into several groups. My group had several students from japan, Korea and one girl from the Netherlands. then we all had to work together to solve a series of jeopardy like questions about global customs, traditions, and various facts. Overall it was a very fun event and i would defiantly go again. we also got paired up with specific partners. My partners name was Jung, he is from Inchon South Korea. He was 24 and had served 2 years in their military. It was very interesting talking with him about the various differences and similarities we had.
WMU Football
I got to go the the last home game of the season against Toledo where wmu ended up winning and having a perfect season.I have been able to attend all of the other home games this year except for 2, it has been nice being able to get into the games for free. it makes me so proud to have school that is doing so well on the field. But I am also happy that i chose wmu not for its success on the football field but because of the success i'm having in the classroom with all of my professors.
